The results are in!

First, the answers.

Question 1: Name a Superhero who has *not* appeared in a major motion picture.
The winner here was AquaMan! Green Lantern was a close 2nd. (Are you listening, Hollywood?)

 # Answer
--- -------------------
 8 Aquaman
 7 Green Lantern
 4 Wonder Woman
 2 Black Lightning
 2 Blue Beetle
 2 Green Arrow
1 each: Bluntman, Hothead Paisan, Mighty Mouse, Power Girl, Preacher, Raven,
The Badger, The Flash, The Tick

Question 2: Name a Batman villian who isn't the Joker.
No big surprises here; Catwoman and The Penguin tie for first, at 10 votes each.
 # Answer
--- -------------------
10 Catwoman
10 The Penguin
 7 The Riddler
 2 Two-Face
1 each: Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Sandman, Scarecrow

Question 3: Name a comic book company that is neither Marvel nor DC.
This was the make-or-break question for this Group Think. Either you got it, or you missed out on being a top scorer.
 # Answer
--- -------------------
22 Dark Horse
 5 Image
1 each: AC, Angry Viking, Archie Comics, Charlton, Fantagraphics, Midnight Comics

Question 4: Name a song about a Super Hero that is not "Iron Man".
This was the hard-to-grade question; not everyone gave me a full enough description for me to categorize everything. Perhaps I should have asked for the Super Hero's name, rather than naming the song. Superman was the winner by that criterion, but since his votes are split among different songs, Spider-Man takes it.
 # Answer
--- -------------------
 8 Spider-Man Theme Song
6 (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman, by The Kinks
 5 (I am) Superman, R.E.M.
3 Superman (It's not easy), 5 for Fighting
2 Superman [no other explanation, so I was unable to place it as one of the above three songs.]
 2 Flash, by Queen
2 Kryptonite, by 3 Doors Down
1 each: Aquaman's Lament, Believe it or Not (Greatest American Hero), Don't Mess Around With Jim,
Pocket Full of Kryptonite, Hero by Chad Kroeger, "Na na na na na na Batman"

Question 5: Name a movie based on an Alan Moore story that isn't Watchmen.
Interestingly, the #3 answer (300) isn't even an Alan Moore story (that was by Frank Miller), but a few people responded likely due to advertising ("director of 300"). One person knew that was wrong, but couldn't think of anything else.
 # Answer
--- -------------------
13 V for Vendetta
8 The League of Extrordinary Gentlemen
 4 300
 3 From Hell
3 Who is Alan Moore/never heard of him/drawing a blank
 1 Constantine

Question 6: Name a Superhero who does not have a secret identity.
Surprising to me, no one used a member of the Fantastic Four! This also turned out to be the least important question, with a max score of 4 points.
 # Answer
--- -------------------
 4 Dr. Manhattan
 4 Dr. Strange
 3 Aquaman
 2 Hellboy
 2 Cannot think of one
 2 Iron Man
 2 The Tick
1 each: Buckaroo Banzai, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Danger Mouse, Fings, Green Lantern, Hancock, Hothead Paisan,
Mermaid Man, Prince Namor (the Sub-Mariner), She-Hulk, The Elongated Man, Thor, Wolverine

And finally, your scores:

Comments

Maybe the other "Superman" song was the one by Crash Test Dummies:

Superman never made any money
Saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair
The world will never see another man
Like him...

I did much better last time, but still fun :-) I debated the superhero song, but the 5 for fighting choice would have only bumped me 3?

I have to thank Aquaman and my quirky but comparatively limited knowledge of superheroes for the win :) I haven't even seen Watchmen!

Yes!!! I rejoice in my averageness...

The "Superman" song I was thinking of was a kind of disco version from the 70s... sung by a woman, not many lyrics except "Super Man Man man man... we love you Super man man man man..." (echo effect)

That's all I got.

I am surprised no one used Laurie Anderson's "O Superman".

I didn't use Green Lantern because I had heard of this . Go figure.

Well, 2010 hasn't happened yet, so you still could have used it.

Well, at least I wasn't the only one who forgot that Alan Moore didn't write 300. (Unfortunately, I remembered ten minutes after I submitted it...)

But I was probably the only person who thought that Batman ever fought Sandman. (I was thinking of the Scarecrow.)

I think this could be the starting point of an interesting discussion. What makes someone a superhero? For instance: Flash Gordon. In my book he's a hero, but not a SUPERhero.

And again, I really recommend checking out the song Aquaman's Lament. So far I think it's the best thing Pandora has introduced me to.

Well, he does seem to have superhuman luck! But then again, so do a number of heroes.

I guess it's also who his opponents are; superheroes fight criminals (many of whom are supervillains), where as heroes fight bad guys, who are often enemies of the state, rather than criminals.

This was fun! Do it again!

I would do them more often is scoring them wasn't such a pain!

I am rejoicing that I wasn't last - yes!

Ah, if I'd picked that REM song I would have been tied for first, instead of languishing in shameful, shameful, second.
